What a marvelous week—I am not going to help others!
On 29th, August, 2010, at 5 am morning, I set off with everyone’s care and heavy luggage to the place that I am totally unfamiliar, the Philippines. I am very excited thinking about how to cope with cases here. At the same time, I also have little worry about that.
When I have arrived, ICDAI staff, Cathy came to airport to pick me up.She first welcome me with the Chinese cuisine, then with the local famous Halo Halo.We went to shop for daily commodities, then we set off to the remote town, Infanta. With all the thoughtful arrangements, I can imagine how Cathy help the needy here.
At 5 pm, we finally arrived and joined Dr. Vincent and Dr. Hung. There are around 10 cases need to follow, most of them had stroke and become paralyzed. Lacking of one doctor, we have to follow up the treatment as soon as possible and we decided to start at 8 am tomorrow. To strive for more time, all the doctors and staff stayed in a place, called the big house. All the staff devoted themselves in this service.
On Monday, we started the service at 8.30am.The first patient who is the most unforgettable. He already had stroke for 3 years at his age at 40.Right side limbs were not able to move as well as the left side. His left eye was inflamed and his vision was blurred. After the acupuncture treatment last week, his condition became better. But he had new symptom, that is common cold and headache, I am totally at a loss that time. What can I do? Dr. Vincent decided to treat his common cold first. I can do acupuncture for him ! I chose the acupoints: Taiyang,Yintang,Baihui (GV 20),Fengchi(GB20),Dazhui (DU 14),Quchi(LI 11),Hegu (LI 4),Xuehai(SP 10),Zusanli (ST 36),Taixi (KI 3)
and prepared him some eye drops.Without any expectations, I do the follow-up on thursday. The outcome is totally unexpectedly good. His headache had gone, still had fever but the sweating condition had improved. He could make a turn when he was lying and his left eye inflammation was under controlled. Is it the eye drops which was only cost HK$40 cured him or because of the acupuncture that I did ? Maybe it is the support and hope that we gave him, it was the combination of all treatments and effects.
Another patient who drew me attention was she, I remember it was Wednesday. She escaped all the eye contact. Every night she was sleep walking. Dr. Vincent diagnosed her as invasion of blood chamber by heat. So we treat her with xiao chai hu tang and did the bloodletting on Qimen (LR 14).As it was too dark inside the room, so we did the treatment outside. I did Gua sha on her chest and hypochondrium. She felt uneasy but did not feel pain. And it is unordinary that she did not mind showing her breast in the public. Cathy and I were busy in doing treatment and helped her to pull down her clothes as well.
Maybe the time of stagnation of blood is too long, it was not easy to Gua sha. We found that there was more sha on Qimen (LR 14) further proved that our diagnosis was right. I used the needle to do the bloodletting and remind her to come back on Friday. On Friday afternoon, we back to the clinic. I saw her waiting outside the clinic. Neglecting the waiting order, I treated for her first. It is a totally different of her. She was tidy with smile and make-up wore on her face. After the first treatment, she stopped strolling at the night. And she wore beautiful underwear. Within 2 days, the disease that bothered her for 10 years has been improved. What a big change!
There were a lot of special cases, I am very glad to volunteer here and have chance to meet Dr. Vincent, he is an excellent doctor with exquisite medical skill. With accompany of Dr. Hung and Cathy, I could be lazy sometime. One day I worked until 10pm which was very harsh. What I have gained is much more than I paid and served. I came here not for helping people, but to learn and gain the feeling of satisfaction. Thanks for the arrangement of CMA and ICDAI !
